Visit Mankato is hosting a digital marketing workshop as a value add to its tourism and hospitality partners. They are bringing in Brian V. Matson, a nationally-recognized marketing expert in the tourism industry, to increase awareness of the tremendous tools and tactics that are tangible and cost effective for businesses today. Attendees will leave understanding in very practical terms how they can implement specific tactics to increase their business’ profile and increase sales including 1) Digital Marketing Trends and Best Practices; 2) A Guide to Social Media Content Planning and Online Promotion; and 3) Claim Your Spaces: A Guide to Google, Yelp, TripAdvisor, and other Review Sites. In addition to sharpening marketing skills, attendees will leave with a greater understanding of how to take advantage of Visit Mankato’s free marketing services and collaborate with each other for greater impact. The educational event will feature three informative sessions:

Part 1: Digital Marketing Trends and Best Practices
Get up-to-date on all the latest trends in the world of digital marketing and tourism. We’ll discuss some of the latest research and clue you in on what you need to be focused on in 2020. In part two, learn the latest tips and tricks to master the use of Facebook and Instagram for your small business or organization. You’ll discover ways that you can contribute to the online story of Mankato.

Part 2: A Guide to Social Media Content Planning and Online Promotion
This session will feature information that will help your organization leverage social media to gain maximum results. Learn valuable strategies to help organize your day-to-day activities including content planning, content development, content distribution, and helpful tips to master Google. Get valuable insights about social media advertising to help your organization get the very most out of your digital marketing efforts.

Part 3: Claim Your Spaces: A Guide to Google, Yelp, TripAdvisor, and other Review Sites
This session will provide you with everything you need to know about how to “Claim Your Spaces” on the world’s largest user-review sites including Google, TripAdvisor, Yelp and more. Attendees will learn best practices when it comes to maintaining accounts, integrating content into their marketing efforts, and how to manage their presence within the various communities.


Brian V. Matson is a nationally-recognized speaker at conferences and events throughout the U.S.  He’s been a part of the hospitality & tourism industry since 2003 and was the long-time Marketing Director at the Fargo Convention and Visitors Bureau where he pioneered several digital and social media promotional programs. To his Minnesota colleagues, he is known as the guy who livened the Fargo Visitor Center with the actual woodchipper from the movie “Fargo”. Brian received the Explore Minnesota Travel Marketing Excellence Award and the North Dakota’s Governor’s Award for Tourism Marketing for his efforts. He’s known for his entertaining presentation style that makes his talking points stick with attendees. Brian is a great asset to the development of any small business or organization’s marketing initiatives due to his vast hands-on knowledge of digital marketing and social media.
