Mankato Farmers Market: The Mankato Farmers Market has been in Mankato for over 40 years. Shopping at and supporting the farmers’ market circulates money within our community, helping to keep it strong. Local farmers and artisans at the market continue to help our community thrive by recirculating your wisely spent dollars. Vendors at our market are required to make or produce their goods wholly or substantially from within 40 miles of Mankato. This stipulation keeps food miles, waste, and resource use to a minimum. They believe in healthy soils, foods, and families, practices that positively affect our community. The main outdoor Market is open every Saturday, rain or shine, through the second Saturday in October. Hours are 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Mankato Farmers’ Market is also open Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:30 to 6 p.m. The market is located at 1895 Adams Street in the Best Buy parking lot. More>

Nobel Conference – Living Soil: A Universe Underfoot: What is soil health, and what processes sustain healthy soils? What interactions connect the living entities in the soil, and how do these interactions shape natural systems? How will climate change affect soils, and (how) can soils be used to mitigate rising levels of carbon in the atmosphere? How do we develop sustainable agricultural practices that will protect against soil erosion and promote soil health? How might we best promote exploration of beneficial compounds from soils? How might we re-imagine our relationship to soil culturally and socially, as well as biologically? These are just some of the questions that Nobel Conference 54 will address. More>

Local Farm Tours: Area farmers are starting up their tractors and giving you a behind the wheel experience at crop harvesting with combine rides Oct. 13. No sign up necessary; bring the kids and hop in the cab to see where your favorite fall crops come from! Combine cabs have one buddy seat which holds one adult and one child can ride on the adult’s lap.
